The No. 5 Duke Blue Devils overcame a sluggish first half to get past the pesky Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, 70-52.
A low-scoring game in the first half ended with the Blue Devils holding onto just a four-point lead at halftime.
Duke finally turned it up in the second half, but it was Tulsa’s inability to score that hurt them in the end.
Nolan Smith led the Blue Devils with 18 points. Kyle Singler added 17 points and Jon Scheyer finished with 15.
Senior Brian Zoubek turned in another solid performance, finishing with 10 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists and one steal.

The No. 7 Duke Blue Devils pulled away late in the second half for a 67-55 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Duke and Virginia Tech both got off to a slow start offensively in the first half but eventually started making some shots.
The Blue Devils were unusually ice cold from the outside, which was allowing the Hokies to hang around.
It was a big night for Kyle Singler, who finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds. He also played well on the defensive end of the floor.
Duke’s win over Virginia Tech gives them a two-game cushion over the Hokies in the ACC race.

The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils overcame a slow start to get past the pesky Miami Hurricanes, 81-74.
Duke’s slow start combined with a hot first-half from Miami had the Blue Devils trailing by 12 at halftime.
In the second half, Duke finally started to heat up while their defense put the clamps on Miami’s outside shooting.
Kyle Singler led the team with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Nolan Smith added 21 points.
The gutsy road win allows Duke to hold onto sole possession of first place in the ACC standings.

The Duke Blue Devils jumped out to an early lead and were rarely challenged in a surprisingly easy 77-56 victory over the Maryland Terrapins.
Duke got the upperhand from the opening tip-off and faced only a couple of legitimate challenges from the Terps midway through the second half.
It was a special day for Coach K, who celebrated his 63rd birthday and his 1,000th game as the head coach at Duke.
It also didn’t hurt that the victory has clearly established Duke as the team to beat in the ACC at the halfway mark of the conference schedule.
Center Brian Zoubek was the story of the day, as the unheralded senior poured in 16 points with a career-high 17 rebounds while teaching freshman Jordan Williams a lesson or two.

The No. 7 Duke Blue Devils had to hold on tight for a 66-63 road victory over the Boston College Eagles.
The Blue Devils could never seem to open up a significant lead on the Eagles, and almost allowed them to get right back into the game in the final minute.
Duke was able to build a 10-point halftime lead that at times stretched even larger than that, but they could not put away the pesky Eagles.
At times this year, Duke’s inability to just put their foot on the throat of a team gasping for life has been a serious concern.
Guard play was the difference in the end, as seniors Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith each poured in 21 points.

Duke Blue Devils forward Lance Thomas is doubtful to play in this weekend’s pivotal conference game against the Maryland Terrapins.
Thomas has a severely bruised bone in his left knee after a collision with a North Carolina player during the team’s 64-54 victory.
After remaining down on the court in obvious pain for several minutes, Thomas had to be carried off the court and immediately into the team’s locker room.
The Blue Devils are currently in first place in the ACC, but tied atop the standings in the loss column with the Terrapins.
Expect Mason and Miles Plumlee to see more significant minutes with Thomas unable to play, or the Blue Devils could elect to go to a smaller lineup.

The Duke Blue Devils weren’t going to let North Carolina get the upperhand in a down year for the Tar Heels.
Heading down Tobacco Road to UNC on Wednesday night, the Blue Devils got all that they bargained for from the feisty Heels before pulling away late to a 64-54 road victory.
Both teams shot under 35 percent in an ugly game, but Duke dominated the boards to generate 11 more shots for themselves than UNC. Meanwhile, with the Tar Heels only scoring 54 points, the Blue Devils held UNC to its lowest scoring output in nearly a decade.
“I thought it was a gritty performance,” Krzyzewski said. “The ball was not going in and they blocked a lot of shots. … For us to keep up our defense and rebounding when the ball wasn’t going in the basket was a big thing.”
“You just need big plays, especially on the road,” Scheyer said. “Coach said the whole game, ‘Don’t worry about missing shots. Just keep shooting,’ and that’s what we were going to do.”

The No. 7 Duke Blue Devils hung tough down the stretch to earn a 64-54 road victory over the rival North Carolina Tar Heels.
Nolan Smith struggled in the first half and was held scoreless, but heated up in the second half to help the Blue Devils to the win.
Duke trailed by one at halftime and also had to deal with the loss of forward Lance Thomas to a knee injury in the second half.
Nonetheless, the Blue Devils got an outstanding performance from Miles and Mason Plumlee, who both stepped up in his absence.
The win keeps Duke atop the ACC standings as the teams finish up the first half of the conference schedule, but they have a few teams making a strong push behind them.

The No. 9 Duke Blue Devils overcame a sluggish start to roll past the visiting No. 19 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 87-67.
After a sloppy first half where both teams struggled to avoid foul trouble and play crisp basketball, Duke finally got things going in the second half,
Forward Kyle Singler, who has been a disappointment this season, finally seemed to find his shooting touch from the outside in the second half.
In all, Singler knocked down eight of his 10 three-point attempts en route to a 30-point evening to help carry Duke to a big conference victory. It was a tremendous performance considering he was bothered by a wrist injury for much of the night.
Singler is a huge key for the Blue Devils. If he has regained his shooting stroke, Duke is a dangerous team who can beat just about anyone.
