The Duke Blue Devils knocked off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in overtime, 6-5, for a thrilling win in the lax national championship game.
It is the first ever national championship in lacrosse for Duke, who has been after that elusive title for quite some time.
It is somewhat ironic that the title finally came during a season in which Duke was considered a darkhorse entering the tournament.
In what was the lowest attended national title game since they started playing at professional football venues, both teams struggled to score.
In the end, it took just five seconds in overtime for the dramatic finish and Duke to take home the title.

The Duke Blue Devils celebrated their 2010 national championship with a trip to the White House.
Coach K and the players met with President Obama and gave him a framed bracket with Duke’s logo in the middle.
The President and Coach K joked about Obama’s correct prediction in 2009 that North Carolina would win the national title.
At the time, Coach K told the president that he should stick to fixing the economy and not worry about picking basketball games.
The Blue Devils were then to spend the rest of the day at Arlington National Cemetary thanking the troops for their service.

Duke Blue Devils forward Kyle Singler has announced that he will return to the school for his senior season.
Singler was planning on returning to Duke but then started leaning toward the NBA after the team won the national championship.
The NCAA tournament’s Most Outstanding Player said he is excited about coming back to Duke.
With Singler back and an impressive incoming freshman class, Duke is a strong favorite to repeat as national champs.
Coach K said he is looking forward to Singler’s return and his continued development as a basketball player.

The Duke Blue Devils overcame a poor shooting night to hold on for a 61-59 victory over the Butler Bulldogs and claim the national championship.
Neither team ever held a double-digit lead, but the Blue Devils were ahead for almost the entire game.
It looked like Duke was ready to put Butler away at several different points, but the Blue Devils couldn’t put the ball in the basket on a consistent basis.
Kyle Singler was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player, and his defense was tremendous in the title game.
Coach K wins his fourth national championship with a team even he admits was a good, not great, group.

Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski said that he has no interest in the New Jersey Nets coaching position.
The Nets have made it clear that they would be willing to offer Coach K a record-breaking contract to lure him to New Jersey.
The projections are somewhere between $12-$15 million per year, which has to tempt anyone.
Coach K also has a good relationship with LeBron James, and the chance to bring him to the Nets would be an interesting pairing.
Still, it seems that Coach K has made up his mind that he will finish out his coaching career at Duke and the NBA train has long since passed for him.

The Duke Blue Devils played their best game of the NCAA tournament in a 78-57 pasting of the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Duke started fast and never really slowed down, eventually wearing out West Virginia midway through the second half.
The Blue Devils really gave West Virginia fits with their offensive rebounding and three-point shooting.
It was surprising how effective Duke was on the offensive end considering how well the Mountaineers defend.

The Duke Blue Devils made big plays down the stretch to earn a 78-71 victory over the Baylor Bears.
The win pushes Duke into the Final Four for the first time since 2004. They will face the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Nolan Smith led Duke with 29 points on a day when Kyle Singler really struggled from the field.
Duke trailed by three at halftime and the game was back and forth for much of the second half.

The Duke Blue Devils overcame a poor shooting performance to roll to a 68-53 win over the California Golden Bears.
Duke’s guards did not shoot the ball well from the outside, but the team’s inside strength and solid defense led the way.
The Blue Devils were so much bigger than California that it gave them multiple looks on many possessions.
On the defensive end, it’s really amazing how much Duke has improved over last year. Despite the Golden Bears’ athletic guards, the Blue Devils seldom gave up penetration into the paint.
The Blue Devils now advance to face the Purdue Boilermakers, who will be a tougher matchup with their size and defense.

The Duke Blue Devils continued their recent domination of the ACC tournament by winning another championship.
It wasn’t easy, but the Blue Devils hung tough down the stretch to pull out a 65-61 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Duke got off to a quick start in the early going thanks to some early jitters from the Yellow Jackets.
Once Georgia Tech got settled in and was able to rally back, the game became a lot more interesting.
Jon Scheyer hit a big three-point shot near the end of the game with the Blue Devils holding just a one-point lead to secure the title.

The No. 4 Duke Blue Devils came up a little short in a 79-72 loss to the No. 23 Maryland Terrapins.
Duke got 20 points from Nolan Smith and 19 more from Jon Scheyer, but it still wasn’t enough to top the Terps.
The Blue Devils got off to a slow start and at one point found themselves trailing by 14 points.
However, four consecutive three-point shots before the half cut the deficit to just two, and they quickly grabbed the lead after halftime.
The loss puts the Blue Devils and Terps into a first-place tie in the ACC with just one game to play.
